As an Account Manager with a master’s in politics focusing on communications, Andrea blends political knowledge with PR expertise to craft impactful messaging. Here he reflects on his transition from political communications to PR, highlighting the importance of workplace flexibility, and shares his favourite brand’s impact on his life.
I began my PR journey a few years ago, driven by my deep interest in how people communicate, and the critical role communications play today. With a background in political communications, I decided to transition into PR to actively apply the knowledge I’d gained. Given my passion for the green transition and renewable energy, it felt natural to focus within the clean energy sector. Joining Resonates allows me to merge my expertise with my commitment to supporting a more sustainable future.
What I find most rewarding about my job is the opportunity to connect with people and bridge the gap between industries and the wider public to champion the renewables message. I take pride in playing a small, yet impactful, role in the green transition. Staying up to date with current news keeps me on my toes, allowing me to spot opportunities as they arise and contribute effectively to the cause.
My favourite brand is Speedo. Having a background as a swimmer and water polo player, I’ve always appreciated the quality and performance of its products. Speedo has consistently provided swimwear that offers both durability and comfort, which is essential for anyone spending a significant amount of time in the water. Beyond that, the brand’s commitment to innovation and supporting athletes resonates with me, as it aligns with my own values of pushing boundaries and striving for excellence. Speedo has been a reliable companion throughout my time in the sport, and it remains a brand I trust.
The future workplace is indeed evolving, and businesses need to adapt to these changes to stay ahead. One of the key areas of focus should be flexibility and smart working. In the post-COVID-19 era, there has been a significant shift in values, with employees increasingly prioritizing a work-life balance. Companies that offer flexible working arrangements are more likely to attract and retain top talent, as this approach aligns with the modern workforce’s expectations.
Another crucial aspect is tuning in with younger generations of workers. Understanding their priorities and ensuring that policies are in place to address these needs is essential. However, it’s equally important to bridge the communication gap between younger and older generations. By fostering an environment where all voices are heard, businesses can create a harmonious workplace that benefits from diverse perspectives.
Additionally, companies should focus on personalising their approach to working with clients. Offering bespoke solutions tailored to each client’s unique needs can set a business apart in a competitive market. Lastly, prioritising team well-being through social events and initiatives can enhance workplace morale and create a positive, cohesive work environment. I think this holistic approach will help businesses navigate the evolving landscape and ensure long-term success.
The journey to Net Zero is fraught with challenges, and some of the most significant hurdles include lack of knowledge and investment, high costs, and the stubbornness of some companies resisting the green transition. Overcoming these challenges requires a multifaceted approach.
A major step forward would be to improve public transportation, making it not only more efficient, but also more affordable. This would encourage people to rely less on personal vehicles, thereby reducing emissions. Additionally, raising awareness and changing people’s habits is crucial. Small, everyday actions—like adopting more plant-based meals or opting for walking, cycling, and public transport—can collectively lead to substantial reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. Enhancing remote work is another strategy that I think could significantly contribute to this goal by reducing the need for commuting and the associated carbon footprint.
Lastly, the implementation of more serious policies and regulations is essential to drive change at both the corporate and individual levels. With stronger policies in place, and a concerted effort to shift behaviours and improve infrastructure, the path to Net Zero becomes more achievable.
Right now, I’m fully embracing my inner nerd with a mix of books, movies, TV series, and gaming. I’m currently reading The Armor of Light by Ken Follett—being a huge fan of the Kingsbridge saga, I couldn’t miss out on this latest chapter. When it comes to movies, you can bet I’m at the cinema within a week of any new release; there’s something special about catching the latest films on the big screen.
TV-wise, I’m still trying to give Rings of Power on Prime Video a fair shot, but I’m also really enjoying the fourth season of Only Murders in the Building. The Artful Dodger on Disney+ has also caught my attention, and of course, I’m diving into Netflix’s brand new Kaos. With so much great content out there, I’m always juggling something new to watch or read, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
One green service I really believe in and would highly recommend is Too Good To Go. They’re doing an incredible job tackling food waste, which is an issue I find particularly hard to accept. The concept is simple but powerful—connecting consumers with surplus food from restaurants, cafes, and stores at a discounted price, ensuring that perfectly good food doesn’t go to waste. It’s a win-win for both the environment and your wallet. For anyone looking to make a positive impact, I think Too Good To Go is a fantastic place to start.
If I could choose to do anything for a day, it would be to read. Lately, finding time to read has been nearly impossible, so the idea of spending an entire day, from dusk to dawn, lost in a book sounds like pure bliss. There’s something magical about getting lost in the pages that transport you to foreign lands or ancient times—it’s an experience I wouldn’t trade for anything else.
