Power Roll: Thought-leadership PR campaign reaches investors

Innovators in solar

Power Roll’s light weight, flexible solar film is truly game-changing. Its low cost and ability to utilise almost any surface enables solar generation where traditional rigid panels cannot be used.

The brief

Some two years before its product would be available, Power Roll wanted to create a buzz around its technology and the opportunities for new solar applications.

Key needs were to attract investors over multiple funding rounds and to target businesses interested in licensing the technology to manufacture the solar film at scale.

Resonates’ creativity and PR skills have been key to growing and sustaining our presence in the media, which has had a hugely positive impact on our brand. We have seen a steady growth in enquiries and our funding rounds are oversubscribed.

Thought leadership primes media outreach

We developed a coherent go-to-market message and a tactical plan to raise Power Roll’s profile using multiple communication channels. Engaging key trade media with thought-leadership articles set the narrative for Power Roll’s differentiation and the new market opportunities that its technology will unlock.

We delivered a range of content including web pages, technology backgrounders, thought-leadership articles and press releases. We also manage Power Roll’s social media channels to shape its messaging and build brand presence.

Engaging with the media to signpost major milestones including technology landmarks, new partnerships, funding rounds and award successes maintains a strong media drumbeat. We also pitched regular media CEO interviews. To support the opening of Power Roll’s new factory in Durham, we secured the attendance of the Minister of State for Business, Energy and Clean Growth.

Our extensive understanding of the solar and cleantech industries, as well as key journalist contacts, has enabled us to place Power Roll’s story in leading publications.

Press coverage drives commercial success

Since 2020, Resonates’ support has enabled Power Roll to grow its brand presence, amplifying its communications to reach a broad and global audience.

Our relationships with key journalists and targeted pitches to publications have helped secure far-reaching coverage in tier one publications, including national coverage in iNews, and thought-leadership content in leading global industry publications such as PV Magazine. Overall, through PR we reached an audience of 2.9m in 2020, growing to 7.5m in 2021.

We have increased Power Roll’s LinkedIn followers from virtually zero to over a 1,000 in a year and engagement is growing and meaningful.

More than just numbers, our coverage has helped Power Roll to get noticed by the right people. In September 2021, Power Roll was named in the Clean Tech Group’s ‘New 50 to Watch List’ and in November 2021 Power Roll presented alongside the Bengal Chamber for Commerce and Industry at COP26. BBC North East covered Power Roll’s office move.

And the results extend to Power Roll’s commercial success. The company receives regular enquiries from prospective manufacturing and application development partners, and its funding rounds are regularly over-subscribed.
