Meet the Expert: Isabelle Osborne, Account Manager

How has your PR and marketing journey grown?

Upon graduating from University College London with a Bachelor’s degree in English, I began my career in copywriting and content creation at an electric vehicle charging company. Whilst there, I found an interest in marketing and communications strategy, and enjoyed devising campaigns that amplified brand visibility and propelled lead generation.

Underlining this experience was my growing curiosity in the global green energy transition, the circular economy, and the adjacent sectors supporting the drive towards Net Zero. I was inspired by the prospect of forging a career within the realm of clean technology and working with/for climate-aligned organisations with a sustainable purpose. Joining the Resonates team felt like my golden ticket to realising exactly this, as I get to support not just one, but several planet-positive businesses innovating across the breadth and depth of the cleantech space!

What do you find most rewarding about your job?

I am a huge advocate of lifelong learning. Particularly when it comes to clean technology, there’s always something new to delve into and learn about. My role at Resonates places me in a unique position to learn something new, interesting and thought provoking practically every day. I also value working alongside people from all sorts of professional backgrounds and with different perspectives on/approaches towards PR. Hearing their insights and expertise broadens my own knowledge, and in turn positively influences my approach to my work.

What’s your favourite brand and why?

As a child growing up in rural Yorkshire, I was always encouraged to go outdoors and enjoy nature. I think my love of The North Face comes from this, as well as the fact I come from a family of skiers. In winter you can often find me in a North Face puffer jacket and beanie. I rely on the brand for ultimate comfort in even the harshest of weathers. Its clothing lines guarantee durability and longevity – I still wear my old North Face ski jackets from years ago, which were worn by other skiers in my family before me.

The future workplace is evolving – what do you think businesses need to focus on in the next few months?

Recently, it has been widely reported that AI is expected to dominate the workplace and displace a significant portion of jobs across many sectors. Increasingly, employers will likely be faced with the question – can a job be done by AI? As AI advances, I hope we can take a nuanced approach to the role it will play in the workplace. Whilst AI can certainly aid employee productivity and boost performance, human creativity, skill and contribution should not be seen as redundant. Businesses have a part to play in empowering the future workforce.

What are the major challenges to tackling Net Zero and how do you overcome them?

The biggest challenge, in my opinion, is time. It’s great that the conversations have happened/are happening, policy makers are acting, and innovators across the globe are pioneering technology and infrastructure that will help us balance the Net Zero scales. But monumental change at the rate and scale it’s required doesn’t happen overnight, and, unfortunately, time is catching up to us. Even when we make significant steps in the right direction, things like continued energy market volatility, anti-EV headlines, ecological crises and extreme weather disasters are harsh insinuations that we’re taking one step forward and two back. But we can’t let our foot off the pedal – tackling systematic barriers to Net Zero where they still exist, building the structures that will facilitate a green future, and maintaining the momentum in driving towards reaching critical climate goals has never been more vital.

What content are you enjoying consuming right now?

Anything book-related has my attention. Beyond books themselves (my favourite book of last year was Chloe Dalton’s Raising Hare), I love the Women’s Prize’s podcast Bookshelfie, where host Vic Hope asks her guests to share the five books by women that mean something to them. I pick up a lot of book recommendations from this podcast.

I’m also enjoying the latest series of Race Across The World. I would love to participate in a similar challenge, exploring amazing corners of the world and experiencing different cultures.

What green products/services do you use/like/would recommend?

I recommend Wild’s refillable deodorant. Wild has an admirable ethos of reducing plastic waste, and its products are beautifully packaged.

If you could choose to do anything for a day, what would it be?

I would hike the Canadian Rockies, and visit its national parks, swim in the crystal blue lakes and marvel at the wildlife.
